RISE Is a great example of community development and efforts to build a resilient, trusted and accessible network of learning opportunity for rural Alberta. Bow Valley College would be pleased to continue utilizing the RISE Network to support and align with needs of rural learners, increase access to post-secondary opportunities and strengthen cross-generational learning through technology

Writing Historical Fiction with Author Simon Rose (Part 3)

Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Historical fiction combines the events of the past with characters and stories from the writer's imagination. Examine the art of writing historical fiction and the need to fully immerse yourself in a particular time period to make your storytelling more believable. Learn how to write effective, authentic, and appealing historical fiction and how to turn your ideas into compelling stories. Understand what defines historical fiction and different historical time periods, create believable settings and plausible characters, and learn how research plays a crucial role in the creation of your novel. This program is offered in three separate workshops:
  • Workshop 1: March 22, 6-8 pm
  • Workshop 2: April 19, 6-8 pm
  • Workshop 3: May 31, 6-8 pm
Mr. Rose recommends attending all three sessions if you can, though it is not required. Handouts will be available for download a week prior to each session.

Admission: Free

Location: Drumheller Public Library

Note: Writers interested in historical non-fiction (e.g. memoir, biography, history) are also welcome.
