Library Lighting Solutions: Calgary Public Library Case Study
3 years ago, the Calgary Public Library approached Heritage Business Interiors (hbi) to partner with them to develop a lighting solution for the existing bookstacks in their branches, including the New Central Library. There were no ‘off the shelf’ solutions available that met all of the requirements such as light quality, patron access, safety and cost.
Allan Hansen has been in the shelving business since 1989 and worked closely with the CPL on this project. He will describe the progression of the lighting solution and also what design decisions the CPL made to get to the final result.
“…our patrons and staff tell us that the shelf lighting makes spine labels easier to read, and books sparkle on the shelves, inviting browsing and borrowing.”-Lisa Hardy, Calgary Public Library.
